The Acorn Series, its chronology designated by a corresponding number of tiny acorns appearing on the spines, includes the original publishing effort by the Boone and Crockett Club. Historically, the first six volumes were printed at least a generation prior to the original Records of North American Big Game. Each of the Acorn Series is an anthology of hunting adventures written by Club members and their contemporaries, and while the Club’s conservation efforts are specifically focused on North America, Acorn Series chapters cover the world. This particular set was collected by Mr. John Vernon Knox Wagar mostly in the 1940s. Wagar was noted professor and conservationist associated with Colorado State University and his name and pencil notes appear just inside each cover. American Big-Game Hunting, published by Forest & Stream in 1893, good condition with some exterior spotting, a small tear at base of the spine, some interior smudging and pencil marks and a bit of loosening to the binding; Hunting in Many Lands, published by Forest and Stream in 1895, excellent condition; Trail and Camp Fire, published by Forest and Stream / Harper & Brothers in 1897, very good condition, includes Wagar’s original purchase receipt from 1944; American Big Game In Its Haunts, published by Forest and Stream in 1904, very good condition; Hunting at High Altitudes, published by Harper & Bothers in 1913, very good with small corner bump on cover; Hunting and Conservation, published by Yale University Press in 1925, very good with two modest hints of separation; Hunting Trails on Three Continents, published by Windward House in 1933, very good condition.
