Five Years of a Hunter’s Life in the Far Interior of South Africa by Roualeyn Gordon Cumming. Published by Harper & Brothers (New York) in 1851, this two-volume set is among the earliest versions of what is certainly a classic work on hunting Africa’s dangerous game. Volume I condition – the cloth binding is bumped at the corners and has some smaller missing pieces in the folds. The pages are solid, with a bit of browning (moisture spots) tearing at the binding threads (horizontal). Former owner’s library impression appears on the title page. Volume 2 condition – similar to above with the front cover nearly separated. The price is firm. $500 plus shipping.
