Winchester Model 21 Grand American 12 gauge. Made in 1974 and supported by included factory documents, serial W32778 has two original barrel sets (26 inches/fixed WS-1 & WS-2/2.75-inch and 26 inches/fixed M & F/3-inch). Both barrel sets have vent ribs with double ivory beads and ejectors. Features include a mechanical safety and single select trigger. STOCK: Crafted from a blank set with both sunburst and full-length figure, checkering is the 21B pattern. Both beavertails are accented with ebony, ribbons and fleurs. The butt is similar and finishes in a leather-covered recoil pad. ENGRAVING: Wearing the 21-6 Grand American pattern, gold appointments include a setter, pointer, brace of pheasant, dog bust and “Grand American” with border on the cap. Supporting scroll covers the action, guard and cap, extends over the chambers and reappears on the latches. Ribs are engraved “Custom Built By Winchester For V.G. Schimmel”. (Initials VGS also appear on the case lid.) DIMENSIONS: Weight is 7.8 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.8 inches, drops are 1.5 and 1.7 inches (the latter discounting the width of the leather wrap), and cast off is approximately .20-inch. CONDITION: Both barrel sets have bright bores, strong ejectors and are full on face. Metal finish is approximately 97 percent with minor suggestions of being afield and trace thinning on the chamber area (right side) of the 3-inch set. Engraving and markings are tack sharp. Wood is at least 95 percent with minor field impressions and general thinning of the finish over the butt. INCLUSIONS: A leather takedown case with felt interior, snaps, oiler and keys is present and in very good condition. $17,500 plus shipping.
