Winchester Model 1873 .44-40. A special order rifle made in 1878 and supported by a factory letter, serial 31289 has a 26-inch heavy octagon barrel (1.10 inches across the muzzle flats, ivory blade). Features include a set trigger, thumbprint dust cover and crescent butt plate with trap. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 10.0 pounds and the length-of-pull is 12.7 inches. CONDITION: The bore is viable (darkened, moderate roughness, strong rifling). Set does not engage. Hammer notches are solid. Metal finishes have browned. Wood has chipped at tang right.
