Mountain Riflery / John Bolliger Signature Series .470 Nitro Express – “The First Mountain Riflery Double Rifle”. Bespoke circa 2007 and requiring 410 man hours to create, serial A470387 is the first of only four doubles made in this storied firm’s history. Based on a refined Merkel action, the 23.5 barrels have matted rib (stepped, brass-beaded blade front sight, sling swivel stud, fixed express rear sight with two folding leafs marked 50/100/150 and adorned with gold sighting triangles, extractor). The action itself has side clips, custom sideplates, a mechanical tang safety, cocking indicators, mechanical triggers, bushed strikers and an extended/tapering lower tang. STOCK: Fashioned from an outstanding English blank set with dynamic waves of marbling, the properly-tapered splinter wears a full wrap of fine checkering with contoured borders and fleur accents. The pattern becomes more elaborate on the butt, the borders accenting contours, complimenting transitions and extending along the toe line. A graceful palm swell, scalloped and shadow-lined cheek rest, steel grip cap, pedestaled stud and Pachmayr Decelerator complete the formalities. The butt is fitted with a counterweight to diminish recoil and perfect balance (the rifle balances at the hinge, pointing and swinging as effortlessly as a fine shotgun). ENGRAVING: Signed ahead of the guard by Michael Dubber, the action, plates, lever and barrel transition are dressed in bold gold wire with delicate supporting scroll, the pattern extending over the forend iron, cap and pedestal. “470 Nitro Express” rides the rib in a field of gold, initials “PWM” show on the guard and the legend “The First Mountain Riflery Double Rifle” appears on the left barrel. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 11.2 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.8 inches, drops are 1.5 and 1.8 inches, and cast off is approximately .20-inch. CONDITION: Clearly lightly fired as the action remains tight to the point the Greener-style crossbolt lever must be pushed to center, bores are pristine and the barrels rock solid on face. Mechanics are positive and snappy. Metal finish is over 95 percent, the majority of adjustment from trace thinning at the safari carry point near the muzzles. Wood is at least 98 percent. The counterweight slightly shifts during handling and will be secured or removed upon request. PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity from Mountain Riflery is included. CASE: An outstanding elephant hide display case with fitted leather interior, bone-handled tools, brass oiler, key and maker’s label formalizes the presentation. Winchester / Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company Model 21 .416 Remington Magnum double rifle. Consigned by the estate of the original owner, serial WR38587 has 24-inch barrels (scalloped rib with integral ramp and red fiber optic front sight, quarter rib with windage-adjustable standing leaf highlighted by three green fiber optic dots). Mechanical features include ejectors, automatic tang safety and a gold single select trigger. STOCK: The exhibition-grade walnut exhibits extraordinary sunburst grain structure. Formalities include a beavertail fore with ebony tip accent and wrap checkering highlighted by ribbons and fleurs. The butt continues the checkering theme and incorporates a steel grip cap, initial shield (blank) and a Winchester logo recoil pad. ENGRAVING: Signed by Paul Lantuch, the receiver is dominated by a lion (right), leopard (left) and elephant (bottom) in gold relief. Each in turn is surrounded by an intricate supporting pattern of gothic vine and intricate scroll intertwining seven lion busts. The pattern continues over the chambers, along the rib, rolls over the lever/tangs/guard and finishes on the cap. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 10.0 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.25 inches, drops are 1.4 and 2.35 inches, and cast off is approximately .35-inch. ACCURACY: The included target exhibits a two-shot, 60-meter group (fired with Federal 400-grain ammunition) with nearly cutting holes. CONDITION: Bores are strong and bright. Barrels are flawlessly on face. Ejectors snick with authority. Metal finish is approximately 99 percent. Wood is approximately 97 percent with a modest distribution of minor finish rubs. INCLUSIONS: A leather takedown case with felt interior, maker’s label, oiler, mahogany two-piece rod and cleaning tips is present and in excellent condition. Dakota Arms Model 10 .270 Winchester. Made in 2007, serial SS0851 has a 23-inch barrel (.580-inch muzzle diameter, banded sling swivel stud, contoured rib with dovetails and recoil shoulders for Talley rings). Complimentary metal finishes are rust blue (barrel, trigger, toe line stud, screws), color case (action, logo grip cap, Talley detachable 30mm rings, safety) and satin blue (breech block). STOCK: The rifle was personally selected at the Sturgis facility by a VIP/patron for the extraordinary sunburst figure of the exhibition grade American walnut stock. Appointments include 24 lines-per-inch wrap checkering, thin recoil pad and a satin finish. ACCURACY: The included factory test target shows a three shots measuring .915-inch center-to-center (100 yards, Federal Premium 130-grain Ballistic Tip). Holland & Holland Royal Super .30 (flanged) double rifle. Made in 1940, serial 35097 (2x barrels, 2x locks, 2x receiver, differing serial on lower tang requested at order per factory letter) has 25-inch barrels (“special light steel”, .505-inch muzzle diameters, stippled ramp front sight with brass-beaded blade and flip-over auxiliary sight, sling loop, matted and stippled quarter rib with fixed express leaf marked “50/200” and folder marked “350”, ejectors). Features include an automatic safety, hand-detachable locks, mechanical triggers, rolled guard, long tangs and bushed strikers. Barrels, lever, safety, tangs, guard and forend iron wear rust blue while the receiver, triggers and trapdoor grip cap contrast in color case. STOCK: The splinter is dressed in wrap checkering with a partially Mullered border. The butt has drop points, a scalloped cheek rest with rolling shadow line, engraved initial plate (“GD”), sling loop and a fresh Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. ENGRAVING:  The receiver, lever, tangs, guard, trap and forend iron showcase Holland’s classic scroll. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 8.6 pounds. Length-of-pull is 13.75 inches, drops are 1.5 and 3.0 inches, and cast off is approximately .35 inches. CONDITION: Bores are bright and show a trace of frosting. Barrels are full on face. Mechanics are snappy. Metal finish is approximately 60 percent with thinning/browning/silvering. Colors are are approximately 40 percent. The splinter is over 80 percent and the butt is approximately 70 percent. PROVENANCE: An original factory letter and ledger sheets (copies) are present. CASE: The original leather and oak case with maker’s label, serialed regulation information label, sling, serialed bone bottle with extra strikers and side pin, snaps and cleaning rod/tips is included.
