A historic hunting rifle comes to market.
January 15, 2017, Kalispell, Montana
Sportsman’s Legacy® is pleased to announce they have been selected to conduct the sale of one of the most historic hunting rifles ever offered, Jack O’Connor’s .416 Rigby Magnum.
Built on a Brevex Magnum Mauser action with metalwork by Tom Burgess and stocked by Bob Johnson, the legendary writer used this spectacular rifle to take his only elephant, finest lion and last Cape buffalo. Even though hunted, condition remains exceptional.
The rifle is supported by detailed documentation including letters from O’Connor regarding the preliminary sale to the present owner in 1973, photographs of O’Connor and the rifle with various trophies and copies of magazine articles detailing these hunts.
A selection of vintage ammunition highlighted by a partial box of .378 Weatherby Magnum brass formed to .416 Rigby by O’Connor with his handwritten loading information is also included.
