Custom Springfield 1903 in .338-06 Ackley Improved. While serial 993208 is unsigned by both maker and engraver, it combines a fantastic walnut blank with many desirable custom features in a lightweight package. The 22-inch sporter barrel wears a banded and hooded front ramp with blade, an island-mounted and windage adjustable notched rear sight, Warne quick detaching mounts (1-inch rings), jeweled bolt body, extractor and follower, three-panel checkered custom bolt knob, custom shroud with three-position Model 70-type wing safety, custom bottom metal with inside-the-bow release, Dayton Traistar single stage trigger, skeleton grip cap and inletted sling swivel studs. The stock has an intricate wrap-around checkering pattern of 26 lines-per-inch accented with fluers and ribbons. The cheekpiece is complimented by a shadow line that disappears perfectly into the grip. ENGRAVING: The floorplate features a kudu bust surrounded by a vines in a punch dot field, the pattern continuing over the guard and reappearing on the sling swivel studs, front sight band, rear sight base and grip cap screws. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 7.4 pounds and length-of-pull is 13.75 inches. MARKINGS: “U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903” rides the front ring, and “33” appears on the bottom of the wing safety. CONDITION: Bore is bright and strong. The single stage trigger breaks crisp. Rust blue is 99 percent, with only slight indications of handling. Wood integrity is about 99 percent, with very few minor impressions and rubs. Wood finish is at least 98 percent, with a very slight thinning on the left side at the action (likely from shipping).
