Sheriff Jim Wilson’s Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 .44 Magnum. Serial N798957 was manufactured at the tail end of the 1970s and purchased by noted gunwriter Sheriff Jim Wilson at about that same time. He had the action “slicked up” and proceeded to carry this big revolver on duty as circumstance and/or good sense dictated. Features include a 4-inch pinned barrel with red ramp front sight, adjustable white outline rear sight, recessed cylinder, color case target hammer with checkered spur and a color case trigger with a polished face. Subsequent to the Sheriff’s ownership, Rob Rowan crafted a superb set of grips from Dall’s sheep horn. CONDITION: The bore is strong and bright. Trigger pulls are simply outstanding. The cylinder indexes and locks properly. Metal finish is approximately 95 percent, with some thinning at the muzzle and a visible cocking ring. Grips are 100 percent. PROVENANCE: A notarized letter from Wilson dated 2/5/99 recounting his ownership is included.
