George Hoenig custom Winchester Model 70 .375 H&H Magnum. Based on a barreled action made in 1949 serialized 110973, features include a 25-inch tapered heavy sporter barrel with original hooded front ramp sight and added island express Rigby-style rear sight with one fixed and four folding leaves (marked 200/300/400/500), barrel-mounted sling swivel stud, cloverleaf tang, carefully-polished internal surfaces, custom bolt release, recontoured bolt handle, tuned trigger and contoured bottom metal with Super Grade floor plate. Hoenig’s stock defines the American Classic style, having perfect lines and an ideal wrap-around checkering pattern running 24 lines-per-inch. A second recoil lug and cross bolt have been added for additional strength. The action is bedded at the rear lug. Rather than the common shadow line, the cheekpiece has a contoured border. SCOPE: A Leupold Vari-X II 1-4x with Duplex reticle rides in Lyman Tru-Lock rings that can be easily removed and replaced, returning to zero. The bases are permanently attached to the action. ACCURACY: A favorite hunting rifle of the well-traveled consignor, it has proven to be exceptionally accurate and also displays a knack for shooting different brands of solids and softs to the same point of impact. DIMENSIONS: Weight, with scope, is 9.4 pounds and length of pull is 13.7 inches. CONDITION: Bore is exceptional. Metal finish is about 97 percent. Wood finish is also about 97 percent and wood integrity rates at least 95 percent, with small scattered field impressions. The price is firm and layaway is available. $5,000 plus shipping.
