Heym Model 88B .375 H&H Magnum double rifle. Imported by Paul Jaeger, serial 81797 is heavily upgraded example with 25-inch Krupp steel barrels topped by a beaded blade front sight, full-length matted rib with fixed express rear sight blade (gold sighting line) and quick detaching 30mm rings, ejectors (which switch off in favor of extractors), cocking indicators, manual safety, sling loops, AAA-grade walnut with heavy figure and 26 lines-per-inch double bordered checkering, semi-beavertail forend and a scalloped cheek rest. A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad and a mercury insert (for recoil mitigation) were added in the aftermarket. ENGRAVING: The action, lever, latch, guard and tangs wear a combination of vine and scroll to at least 50 percent coverage. The brass oval on the toe line bears initials “PO”. DIMENSIONS: Weight (including insert and rings) is 9.4 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.5 inches. CONDITION: Bores are bright. Barrels are full on face and the opening lever rests at center. Ejectors pop with enthusiasm. Bluing stands at approximately 95 percent with but minor evidence of being afield. The action finish (coin) is over 90 percent owing to light traces of tarnish at the carry points. Wood is over 95 percent with a scattering of minor impressions, a few softened diamonds and a single (tiny) chip at the upper left nose of the beavertail.
