FN Mauser Sporter Deluxe Presentation Rifle in .30-06 Springfield. Serial 29652 appears to be a factory-engraved barreled action which was imported (circa 1954) and then fitted with a custom stock – a somewhat common occurrence at that time. Features include a 24-inch light sporter barrel with scalloped front base with beaded blade sight, folding rear sight (adjustable), Mauser action with full-length claw extractor, knurled and hollowed bolt knob, two-position side safety, Griffin & Howe side mount (with Leupold M8-3x scope, Duplex reticle), AAA-grade English walnut stock with borderless wrap checkering and fleur accents, scalloped cheekpiece with shadow line, sling swivel studs and a White Line recoil pad. ENGRAVING: The action is adorned with the Felix Funken-designed pattern of a fire-breathing dragon surrounded by leaf and vine, with full coverage over the bottom metal, front ring, rear bridge and guard. The pattern extends two inches along the barrel as well and this work is unsigned. The grip cap features a well-executed game scene of a grizzly on a salmon stream (also unsigned). DIMENSIONS: Scoped weight is 8.4 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.25 inches. MARKINGS: Serial appears on both barrel and action. “FN” and “1954” appear when the stock is removed. There is no indication of engraver or stockmaker present. CONDITION: The bore is superb, bright and shiny. Rust blue of the barrel is at least 95 percent. The barreled action is approximately 95 percent as well, with a hint of tarnish – mostly on the shroud and trigger. Streaks of dried finish or oil appear on the inside of the guard. Stock finish is also approximately 95 percent, with minor impressions and scratches. The side mount has been inletted and a repaired chip is evident at the rear of the base (just ahead of the bolt release). The price is firm and layaway is available. $3,500 plus shipping.
