TR in the Meru by John Seerey-Lester. Dynamically featured in the Jan/Feb, 2019 issue of Sporting Classics Magazine (pages 48-51), this 18×24-inch oil recounts an event late in Roosevelt’s 1909 safari. Under the watchful eye of professional hunter R. J. Cunninghame, the President was hunting elephant in the Meru region on the slopes of Mt. Kenya and had established a camp near a Wa-Meru village. As they breakfasted that first morning, a tribesman rushed in with news of a nearby herd. After several tense approaches, Roosevelt managed to drop one of the bulls. The price is firm at $25,000 plus shipping.
